About this service

Is My Roof South Facing? is a free tool designed for UK homeowners to check the orientation of their roof and assess its suitability for solar panels. The service uses the Google Solar API and Mapbox to provide roof orientation data and map displays. By using this website, you agree to be bound by these terms of use.

Accuracy of results

The results provided by this tool are indicative only. They are based on satellite imagery and computational modelling, and do not account for shading caused by trees, nearby buildings, or other obstructions.

Actual solar panel performance will depend on a number of factors, including system specification, installation quality, weather conditions, and household usage patterns. You should always obtain a professional site survey from an MCS-certified installer before proceeding with any solar panel installation.

We do not guarantee the accuracy of any results provided by this service.

Financial estimates

Any estimated savings figures are calculated using the current Ofgem energy price cap rate and data from the Google Solar API. These estimates may differ significantly from actual savings you would achieve.

The Ofgem energy price cap changes periodically, and payback period estimates assume a typical 4kW solar panel system installed at average UK costs. These figures are provided for general information only and do not constitute financial advice. You should seek independent financial advice before making any investment decisions relating to solar panels.

Quote requests

If you submit a quote request through this service, your contact details will be shared with up to three solar panel installers. These installers are independent businesses, and we do not endorse any particular installer.

We are not responsible for the quality, pricing, or conduct of any installer you are connected with through this service. You are under no obligation to accept any quote you receive.

Referral links

This website contains referral links to third-party companies. We may receive a referral payment when you use these links. The presence of a referral link does not affect the price you pay for any product or service.

All referral links are clearly identified. The inclusion of a referral link does not constitute an endorsement of the linked company, product, or service. You should conduct your own research before making any purchase decision.

Grant information

Any information about grants or government schemes provided on this website is offered as general guidance only. Eligibility criteria, funding levels, and scheme details are subject to change at any time.

We do not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of any grant information displayed. You should verify all details directly with the relevant government body or scheme administrator.
